Our History

Spinney Associates was started in 1982 when Cathy Spinney began creating illustrations for an acquaintance who wanted to submit formal drawings to the US Patent & Trademark Office. At the time, formal drawings had to be submitted on the unforgiving Bristol board, where the slightest smudge meant starting over. Cathy's patience and precision made for satisfied customers during the early years, and, fortunately for the business, Cathy was able to increase her output and take on more clients when erasable mylar came into use in the late 80s.

Finally, the USPTO began accepting computer drafted formals in the early 90s and Spinney Associates increased the speed with which it provided drawings to clients and was better able to offer services to clients nationwide. While it would be several years before all drafting moved to the desktop, the limitations of time and distance disappeared with the advent of email and electronic filing.

Since that time, Spinney Associates has grown with the industry, and we are now proud to bring the same patience and attention to detail that made Cathy successful in those early days to all of our customers. We hope you find all of your needs met as we strive to bring you the latest in technological efficiency and personal service.
